Meeting Notes
We had our very first meeting with all the new members of the DeICE cabinet on January 27th. While we didn't expect much in the way of a turn-out, we were pleasantly surprised when Stan Brown of Oswego District 308 showed up. Stan shared with us all the great tech-related projects that he has going on in his classroom. The four of us spent much of the time brainstorming ideas on ways to resuscitate the chapter by offering engaging professional development opportunities, discussion topics for collaboration and sharing of ideas, and a very desirable raffle item.
Future meetings may be held at the Professional Development Alliance in Joliet. Possible professional development topics included: Podcasting, Obtaining Grants, Open Source Software, Moodle, Internet Safety, SMART Technologies, and 21st Century Classroom Tools. While we had our own set of ideas, we all agreed that putting out a survey to our membership would be the best way find out what topics to present. I was able to obtain an e-mail list of current active DeICE Chapter members and I will be using this list as a means of future correspondence as well. So be looking for a Zoomerang survey shortly,...
ICE Conference Information
There will be a DeICE "Meet-And-Greet / Raffle" on Friday, February 26th from 2:30-3:15 in one of the Skybox rooms. Attendees can enter a raffle to win a Dukane Wireless Air Slate that was donated by Dukane Corporation in St. Charles, IL. Raffle entries will be carried over for future drawing at upcoming meetings. At every DeICE meeting attendees will be able to put another entry into the drawing. The more meetings you attend, the better chance you have to win a tech-related prize.
I will be in attendance at the conference on Thursday and Friday. I will be putting in some time at ICE booth in the conference center from 9:30am-10:30am on Friday. Please stop by and say hello.
Apple iPad
I'm looking into the possibility of using chapter funds to raffle off a new Apple iPad at our last meeting of this school year in April.
Raffle entries from every meeting attended would be carried over for the drawing at our last meeting in April. The more meetings a member attended, the better chance they'd have to win the iPad.
If we get the go-ahead, we'd stipulate that the winner, "must be present to win". So be sure to put the April 28th meeting on your calendar.
Stay tuned for more information,... and I hope to see you at the ICE Conference on Thursday or Friday.

Fantastic job Don... There is a lot of good people in that region and I think it will take strong leadership like this to bring everyone out. The raffle idea is fantastic!
Perhaps recruiting speakers like Stan for future events will continue to be key as well.
Finally ... Try and put out a meet and greet for the PLN plaza at ICE perhaps.
