iPad and New Initiatives with Teri Rossman

Session 1: Common Core Assessments and the iPad
Common Core standards require students to dive deeper into content.  Teachers can easily differentiate lessons by providing CHOICE to students on how they will be assessed.  Using iPad Apps and a common rubric, we will explore using apps for assessment based on the backwards design model of instruction. 

Session 2: Becoming a Curator of Content
“How do you keep up with it all?” Instructional technologies are changing faster than most teachers can keep up.  Using the iPad, teachers will learn the best places to find out all the latest ideas and trends for using their iPads in the classroom.  This session will show you that you don’t have to re-create the wheel to look like an iPad genius!

Session 3: I didn’t know my iPad could do that!
This session is more for the iPad beginner, or for those who need a review of the built-in features of the iPad.  Many tips and tricks will be shared, and classroom management ideas will be discussed.

Digital Publishing

Session 1: Keep it Legal
Before you publish you need to know student rights and protections; copyright; and making sure that you protect yourself on-line.

 

Session 2: Storyboard/Edmodo
These are classic free publishing tools for iPads and computers that many teachers are exploring and using for repositories, testing, student creations and more.

 

Session 3: Digital Resources to Help Your Classroom with Common Core
A plethora of ideas and resources including websites, apps and more!  Collaborate with your colleagues and share what you are using and add to your arsenal of tools.

Organizing Tools for Common Core and Danielson

Session 1: ePortfolios Are Back
Dropbox and Evernote are examples of free websites where educators can store and organize student work.  Come take a look at these and more.

 

Session 2: Google Drive
Google has updated and upgraded again.  Come learn what is new and what great tools are available at Google Drive for organizing student work and publishing opportunities.

 

Session 3: Livebinder
This is your web based 3-ring binder!  A place to store, create, publish and organize your content.

*Based on your feedback from this conference evaluations, we will plan for another RICE Mini Workshop on 4/8/2013  5-7 (another free “just in time” opportunity).

We regret to announce that we have cancelled the RICE Mini Conference scheduled for January 26th at UTHS due to low enrollment.  We hope to offer additional trainings in the future.

iPads are taking education by storm!  Schools across the nation are embracing mini-computing as an affordable technology alternative in a variety of settings.  Locally, many of you in Rock Island, Bureau, Henry and Mercer counties have received iPads, both last year and this, through creative grant initiatives.

iPad Forum 4:00-5:00 pm
During the first hour of the evening, educators who have ayear of experience with this new academic tool will share what management practices worked and what didn’t.  This open forum will provide all attendees the opportunity to learn successful tips for a one-iPad classroom to a school with multiple iPad charging stations.  Share your learning experiences, suggestions and expectations for the coming school year.

After the opening forum, you can choose between two one-hour sessions. 

ePublishing--Staff
from Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District will demonstrate how to create amazing books using iBooks Author.  This free app allows users to create multi-dimensional, interactive stories, textbooks, and
more.  Learn a few of the basics to take back to your classroom.  You and your students can start publishing your own books and curriculum in a snap!

Implementing iPads—Do
you have a set of iPads in your classroom or school?  Are you looking for solutions to managing
apps, users, permissions, etc.?  Come learn what new options are available for an individual classroom or for district level management.

Upcoming Information on Conference's coming to the QC

STEM Conference in QC Area

The Illinois Math and Science Academy will be hosting a Community STEM Conference on Tuesday January 24, 2012  (5-7 pm) at the Rock Island Center for Math and Sciences (a RISD41 grade school).  This conference is open to students of all ages, educators and community members.  Anyone from throughout the Quad Cities greater area is welcome to attend.  IMSA is seeking presenters and attendees for this event.

Quad Cities area Students Involved with Technology Conference

The first annual QC SIT Conference will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2012 at Glenview Middle School in East Moline.  This unique all day technology conference is for students and presented by students.  Visit http://www.sitconference.org

Students Involved with Technology Conferences have been happening around the state of Illinois for more than a dozen years.  This is the first time it has been brought to the greater Quad Cities area.  The conference is open for all to attend, regardless of the community in which you live.  We are seeking student presenters, adult mentors, student attendees and volunteers.  Since this is our first of many SIT conferences, seating is limited to the first 150 students who register.  

Pease help spread the word to your local educational community and personal networks (churches, scouting, clubs, businesses, etc.).
